The Algarve
Probably the best known holiday resorts are in the Algarve, with beautiful golden beaches, quaint villages, super golf courses, excellent restaurants serving freshly caught seafood, and nightlife. Most were small fishing villages with white-washed houses and narrow streets, but now have expanded to larger tourist resorts. Enjoy scenic drives or walks through the lush green Algarve countryside, full of almond and olive groves, orange and fig trees.
The Algarve has a fantastic range of villas to choose from. Holiday villas in the Algarve offer families a great way to enjoy a holiday without the constraints of a hotel or apartment complex.
Albufeira was a small fishing village until the 1960 but is a major tourist resort. Try your hand at quad-biking, jet-skiing, take a boat trip to see the dolphins, visit the caves, dine in the restaurants then dance the night away in the clubs.
Others places to visit are Faro, with its daily market selling souvenirs, locally grown produce and handicrafts; Estoril, known as the Portuguese Riviera, and home to a huge casino with live shows, and Sintra with its Castelo dos Mouros (Castle of the Moors) original built in the 10th century, then renovated in the 18th century.
